Algerian authorities have officially transferred 33 Moroccan migrants, including one minor, back to Morocco. The repatriation took place at the Zouj Beghal border crossing.
The Association for Assistance to Migrants in Vulnerable Situations confirmed the handover. According to the organization, the returnees originate from various cities across Morocco. While the majority are from Ksar El Kebir, others hail from Nador, Settat, Oujda, Fez, Berkane, Taounate, Casablanca, Taza, Errachidia, Tinghir, Tetouan, and Jerada. Relatives of the migrants were already waiting at the border to welcome them home.
This recent transfer highlights the broader work of the association, which actively tracks cases of Moroccans who have been detained, gone missing, or passed away during migration attempts. A key part of their mission involves assisting families with the complex paperwork needed to legally identify missing or deceased loved ones.
In addition to their ongoing work at the Algerian border, the organization reports a growing number of distress calls concerning the wider region. Recently, they have seen a sharp increase in requests from families desperately trying to locate Moroccan relatives who are missing or being held in detention centers in Libya.
